Trees for Bees NZ
Smart planting for healthy bees
Planting guides - South Island
The criteria for selecting the plants for the short list in each region were that they must be attractive to bees, preferably native (or alternatively non-invasive exotics), and practical for farmers to grow.
When choosing what to plant in waterway margins, windbreaks, along roadsides, farmers can now choose bee friendly trees and shrubs from these lists. Many shelter and erosion control plants also produce abundant flowers to feed bees so choosing multi-purpose plants is smart farming for healthy bees.
